Tonight 13 Belizeans will be officially conferred with master's degrees in business administration or MBAs. The students will be receiving their MBAa from the University of the West Indies' Cave Hill School of Business in Barbados but over the last two and a half years they did most of the work right here in Belize at the UWI School of Continuing Studies. Alberto Young Jr. will speak at tonight's graduation and today he told us it is not only an accomplishment for them, it is an accomplishment for Belize.

Alberto Young Jr., Graduate
"We studied in Belize. We had to sacrifice our time from five to nine every evening, except Thursday, and then Saturdays from eight to five and it was after work we went to school and we also had to do group work. Some of us stayed up four o'clock in the morning, our groups were either five or six people, and it was a setup in such a way that each group supported the other groups and we had to do four exams, we had to do projects for each of our fifteen courses, and at the end of the day I think that the support that each of the cohort members gave to each other really has helped to facilitate the achievement tonight.

For me it is quite fulfilling because I have led many people and many people have supported me throughout my three years as a cohort member and I believe now that I have this skill and knowledge to contribute even further to the development of the people I lead."

The keynote speaker at tonight's graduation will be Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh. This is the third set of graduates and a fourth class is already underway. Each student paid about $40,000. Some of the notable names among the graduates are BTB Director Tracy Panton, Gilbert Gordon from the Customs Department, and Ruth Meighan who works with government.
