Caye Caulker Traffic Committee Bex!

The Caye Caulker Traffic Committee is at odds with the Transport Department. The matter is the department by-passing the local licensing powers of the island's traffic committee in granting permits to 5 persons to operate vehicles on the island. Those 5 permits were originally rejected by the island committee, and the applications frustrated that their business interests were being undermined took it to Belmopan. Two weeks ago the committee sent a letter to the Transport Department telling the man in charge Michael Godoy that they intend to resign their post as their authority is not being respected and that no consultation was done with them for the reversal of their decision. That was two weeks ago and there is still no response from the Transport Department, however the committee's position is such that they are relinquishing their authority to the Transport Department for them to take on the Caye Caulker Traffic Committee's responsibilities on the island.
