Police still don't know the name of a man who was crushed to death this afternoon on the Orange Walk By-Pass. Just after midday, 25-year-old Rafael Calam was driving his fully loaded, 18 wheel cane truck towards the Tower Hill Factory. That has a carrying capacity of between 15 and 20 tons, and so when he saw a man on a bicycle suddenly swerve in front of him, there was little he could do to avoid the impact. Calam knocked the cyclist off the bike and then ran over him, killing him instantly.
Police say they do not yet have an identity on the victim. All they know is that he was about 5 foot 5, wearing a blue jeans three quarter length pants and a white shirt. He was in his mid 30's or early 40's and is believed to be a Salvadoran possibly working as a caretaker in the area.
