With the onset of the cool December weather, probably the last place you'd want to be is on an island. But while the slight chill, may put you off, we guarantee, when you look at the paintings on display at the House of Culture, you'll have a change of heart. We found out why, even in December, island art is cool.
Jules Vasquez Reporting,
The show features ten island artists exploring familiar island themes of the sea, the undersea and there are always a few trusty sailboats. But two artists that stand out are the Papo Alamilla and Edgar Gomez. Alamilla's startling portraits, and Gomez's masterful repose have won over the affection of this fellow artist.
Terryl Godoy, Artist
"These artists didn't do anything, they don't bar anything, they just go and I don't know, he has a wonderful talent. We all have talent but his talent is totally out of this world."
And while they are the leaders of these island artists, the other eight fill in with familiar styles, which in this old government house, seem renewed.
Terryl Godoy,
"What they are doing is to bring San Pedro to Belize on canvas."
And breaking the nearly uniform theme is this honorary islander.
Terryl Godoy,
"That's when we came up with the idea to put my style and their style together and we have a combination of Belize; the land, the water, the sea."
The show runs for a month and everything there is for sale.
