They sailed into Belize on Carnival's "Galore" cruise ship on Tuesday morning but police say that brothers Andrew and Joshua Schumate didn't come here on a vacation, they were drug mules.
As we reported last night - 23-year-old Andrew and 26-year-old Joshua were busted with drugs at the Tourism Village after police officers saw the pair acting suspiciously. Police say that when they searched the brother, a pack of cocaine fell out of Joshua's pants. But there is more to the story than that.
Evidence presented in court today showed that when police officers went to search the brothers, 3 small bags of cocaine fell out of Joshua's buttocks. Both brothers were taken to the KHMH and doctors removed a total of six packets from Joshua's anus. The packets weighed in at a total of 37.6 grams and tests revealed that the packets contained a mixture of cocaine and heroin. Andrew meanwhile had six packets filled with cocaine in his buttocks - but his were in one bag and weighed 33 grams.
In Magistrate's Court yesterday both brothers attempted to plead guilty to possession but it was rejected. This morning when they appeared alongside their attorney Lionel Welch, they pleaded guilty to drug trafficking. Magistrate Sharon Frazer fined them $10,000 each. They paid the fine in cash and are reportedly on their way out of the country.
