He is a farmer accused of killing his boss and then raping his dead boss' common-law wife - and today 50 year old Eqifano Guerra saved the court time and possibly himself some jail time when he pleaded guilty.
Guerra was charged for the murder of 31-year-old Lionel Moralez but in the Supreme Court he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to raping of Moralez's common-law wife after he had killed Moralez. It happened on March 28th of 2005 at Moralez's Farm in Belmopan City.
The two were arguing over some corn they had planted. Guerra reportedly wanted to harvest the corn but Moralez wouldn't permit him. An argument erupted and it ended when Guerra pulled out a gun and shot his boss.
Guerra initially confessed to police in a caution statement and told them he shot Moralez because he (Moralez) was advancing towards him (Guerra) with a knife.
Guerra will be sentenced by Justice John Troadio Gonzalez on Friday. Deputy DPP Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt was the prosecutor.
