Earlier we told you about last night's shooting spree on Rivero Street in which three young men were injured, including a 10-year-old boy. Sigmund Trapp Sr. is the father of Sigmund Jr. who was shot in his back. The prognosis for his son's recovery is excellent but tonight Sigmund Trapp Sr. is equally concerned about his community. He says he and other residents on Rivero Street simply won't stand for this type of violence.
Sigmund Trapp Sr., Father of Shooting Victim
"Around the hours of 9:15 and 9:30 we heard a lot of shots rang out and that same time when those shots rang out, both of us moved to the door, the front door of our house and we focused on one direction: where the shots came from and where the shots came from was where Akeem, Sigmund, who we all call Herschel, and Akeem's little brother - they were all standing at the corner of the lane.
I want to send out a message to all these young men in Belize that may believe that they can just get out there and do these crimes. Stop the crime man because a place like Rivero Street, a street that love is still there. We are families that live on that street. We are families that are concerned about each other. We are concerned about each other and we are concerned about the mothers, we are concerned about all the people that live on that street and we don't want you guys to come here to come and tarnish our neighborhood.
So when you guys have your little problems, don't just think about picking up a gun and going out there and solving your problem. You can always think first before you get there and do things like this.
We take a loss but our loss today is not like we are saying go back out there and revenge for our loss. Our loss today is like we are here to face our problem and when we face our problem, we are here to work things out with people. We are not here to say well we will go out there and we will retaliate.
So my message is to tell all you people in Belize know we have a lot of love on Rivero Street and we want our street to remain that way. We don't want anybody to come and tarnish our street and make our people on our street start to live in fear. We don't live in fear on Rivero Street, we always live in happiness."
Again neighbors tell us the dispute was likely over a bike and that on Sunday night a gunman rode through the area and fired off one single shot. No one was injured in that shooting.
