Palotti High is erecting a new school building and the school has come up with a novel way to raise money. The school is having a waltz competition. Now if waltz is to Punta as Count Dracula is to Tata Duhende - then the junior participants who are 14 to 17 years old should have a lot of preparing to do. But they've been working since February and when we saw them today, they looked positively swellegant. Event organizer Irma Skeen told us why school fundraisers are hoping to waltz all the way to the bank.

Irma Skeen, Event Organizer
"It is a nice unique dance. I know a lot of people watch TV so you can picture watching, 'Dancing with the Stars,' and it is something like that and this is a student-student and we have an open where any ages can dance also. So its beautiful because all the young ladies will be dressed in their elegant beautiful dresses and we have two types: the formal wear and then we have the Latino wear where they have two changes of clothes.

It's mental and physical. Mental means that they have to concentrate on each step for different dances. And the physical, the way they move and carry themselves around and it is very beautiful and unique."

Those you saw rehearsing are the juniors but there is also an open category where any of 10 types of ballroom dance will be permitted. The event is on Saturday night at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall and tickets are $30 dollars, which includes dinner. If you want tickets, call 224-4886.
