On Monday April second, police looked sharp when they foiled the armed robbers who'd just stolen over $70,000 in cash from an employee of the Fort Street Tourism Village.

As we reported, at about 11 that morning, Jean Deeks was going to make a deposit for the village at the Northern Highway branch of the Nova Scotia Bank when two men accosted her in the parking lot and snatched her money bag - a bag in which she had the money and her nine millimeter pistol.

But to get off with it they had to fire a shot. And that shot alerted the Anti-Drug Unit which is posted at a nearby residence in Bella Vista. The ADU sprung into action immediately and tracked down the robbers in Belama Phase One.

Two men were caught red handed and they have been charged. And the only thing not recovered was a cell phone, not bad for a $70,000 heist.

And today, in a rare move, Commissioner Gerald Westby presented a written commendation and a $200 cash award to each of the three police officers who responded. They are Corporals Lenox Broaster, Basil Reyes and Glen Caliz. The Commissioner described their actions as brave and beyond the call of duty.
