Less than two hours after Jomo Lamb was killed, police detained 17-year-old Kareem Francis who is also known as Yankee. This afternoon, Francis was charged in family court for Lamb's murder. He was remanded without bail. CIB Chief Superintendent Chester Williams says the motive is still undetermined but they are sure Kareem Francis was the shooter.
Supt. Chester Williams, C.I.B. Commander
"Our investigation further led to the detention of a 17 year old who has since been arrested and charged for the murder of Mr. Lamb."
Keith Swift,
What was the motive?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"At this time we have not arrived at a conclusive motive. We are looking at many possibilities. We have evidence to
make an arrest. That is all I will say at this time."
Keith Swift,
Has he confessed?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"I will not comment on that either."
Keith Swift,
Has the murder weapon been recovered?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"No."
Keith Swift,
Is this murder last night in anyway related to the shooting on Monday night, specifically that Jomo Lamb may have been a witness?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"From our investigation, the murder last night has no connection to the shooting which occurred on Monday night involving the Trapps. It is an isolated incident so I will not say that there is any relation between both incidents."
Keith Swift,
Were Jomo Lamb and the accused friends or enemies or acquaintances?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"As I said I will not go into much detail as to the in-depth nature of our investigation. I do not want to say anything that will jeopardize our investigation."
Police are not sure what caliber firearm was used in the murder. We should clarify that police believe Kareem Francis was the passenger in a heavily tinted red car which was parked on Baracat Street, apparently lay waiting Jomo Lamb. Francis, it is believed, never exited the vehicle. The window was simply lowered and the shot fired from a distance of about five feet.
Again, Jomo Lamb's murder caps off a turbulent week in the Yabra area and Assistant Commissioner of Police and Eastern Division boss Crispin Jeffries will be meeting with youths in the area over the weekend to try and hammer out some kind of de-escalation of hostilities.
