He pleaded guilty to killing his boss and then raping the boss's common law wife and today Epifano Guerra was sentenced for his crime.
Before sentencing Justice Troadio Gonzalez heard a mitigation plea from his attorney Hubert Elrington. He also heard something new called a victims' impact statement. That provided an account from the wife and children of the deceased, explaining all the hardship they have endured since he was killed.
With that Justice Gonzalez sentenced him to 18 years for manslaughter and 12 years for the rape. He stipulated that the sentences are to run concurrently, so he will only serve 18 years.
Guerra killed Leonel Mendez in March of 2005 at a farm in Belmopan City.
