A Guinea Grass man accused of murder pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter on Wednesday in the Orange Walk session of the Supreme Court.

24-year-old Andrew Carillas killed Amildo Carillo on the night of June 24, 2004 in Guinea Grass. The two had been drinking together but the evening took a turn when Carillo called Carillas his cunado, meaning
brother in law. Carillas didn't like hearing that one bit, and the two got into a fight which ended abruptly when carillas pulled a switchblade on the man who had insulted him and slashed him across the midsection. Carillo died almost immediately.

Carillas will be sentenced by Justice Minette Hafiz Bertram on Monday after she hears a mitigation plea from his attorney, Simeon Sampson.
