He was tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison for murder but this morning Edward Barahona walked out of the Court of Appeal freed from that charge. In February of this year Barahona was convicted of the murder of David Vasquez.

This morning the Appeals Court squashed his conviction because the identification of the main witness against Barahona was shaky and they found that trial judge Troadio Gonzalez should have thrown out the case.

Vasquez was killed in broad daylight on June 10th of 2005 on the upper flat of Olympic Restaurant on Orange Street.

And while he was freed of the murder charge, Barahona wasn't free to go home. He was taken back into police custody because he has an attempted murder charge pending. It turns out that the day before he was accused of killing Vasquez, Barahona allegedly shot Alvin Cumberbatch. Barahona will go on trial for the Cumberbatch shooting in the next session of the Supreme Court.
