He sliced a man's stomach with a switchblade because the man called him "cunado," which means brother in law, and today Andrew Marlon Carillas was sentenced. On Monday June 11th Carillas pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Amildo Carillo and today Justice Minette Hafiz Betram sentenced him to 13 years in prison.

The killing occurred on June 24th of 2004 in Guinea Grass Village. The men were drinking at separate tables at a bar in Guinea Grass when Carillo called Carillas - cunado. That was no compliment to Carillas and after leaving he found a switchblade and fatally cut Carillo.

At today's sentencing, Carillas' pastor and a neighbor made mitigation pleas on his behalf. There was also a victim impact statement from Carillo's mother Ichelle Carillo. Simeon Sampson defended Carillas.
