He was beaten to death inside a holding cell at the Orange Walk Police Station and police say the man responsible is 17-year-old Eric Castillo. Castillo was today charged for the murder of 30-year-old Nelson Castellanos.
Castillo was in the cell with Castellanos late last week. The allegation is that Castellanos threw his feaces on Castillo. Castillo in turn exacted a beating on Castellanos. On Saturday morning - Castellanos was released from police custody already badly beaten and with swelling to the face. But police re-arrested him later that afternoon for an attempted burglary. He was found dead 7 hours later at 1 am on Sunday. A post mortem says that he died from bleeding in the lungs.
Castillo has been remanded to the Hattieville Prison.
