Hunger is No Excuse for Burglary

26-year-old Oscar Martinez broke into a 76-year-old woman's home on Tuesday afternoon and stole $650. Today Martinez pleaded guilty and told a Magistrate he did it because he was hungry. Well hunger is no excuse for burglary and the court had no mercy - he was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Martinez is accused of breaking into the home of Marjorie Tillet in Biscayne Village. He gained entry by stoning a concrete block into the window. The allowed him to get in but it also alerted neighbors. Martinez helped himself to the $650 which was inside Tillet's chest of drawers. He then attempted to flee but didn't get far since neighbors made a citizen's arrest. Martinez was found with the stolen money.
