Tonight, there is a cruel murder of a senior citizen in Camalote to report. Yesterday the decomposing body of 67-year-old Jose Rudolpho Rivas Contreras was found in his home in the Spanish Town area of Camalote Village. A knife was found next to Rivas and it was also apparent that in addition to being stabbed, he had been beaten in the head with a hammer. The discovery was made yesterday morning by Fermina Franco who attends a church next to Rivas's house. With the help of a translator, she told us this afternoon that when she went to church yesterday morning, she picked up a pungent odor.
Fermina Franco,
"Yesterday morning she came to church early and smelt this scent. After she smelt this scent she searched around the compound of the church but there was no dead animal. And then she walked over to a neighbor who is a police officer and asked them to come and check out the house because obviously the scent was coming from there. They went into the house and that is when they found the man that was already dead. They called the police station and then the police came to take the body to the hospital.
She knew him, he has lived here for about ten years and he lived there all alone for all that time."
Because of the advanced state of decomposition, a post mortem had to be conducted on the spot. Neighbors say that Rivas, who is from El Salvador lived alone. And though the murder was violent - residents say no one probably heard because there is a bar on that street and any sounds of distress would have been drowned out by the music.
