On Tuesday we told you about the shocking murder of 43 year old Peter Phillips. The U.S. National who was an adjunct professor at Galen University was found murdered in Teakettle Village on Monday evening. This morning police took the accused killer to court and 7NEWS was there.

This is the man who police say killed Peter Phillips. His name is Roger Emmanuel and police alleged that it is he who brutally chopped to death Professor Phillips on Monday in Teakettle Village.

Sgt. Sinquext Martinez, Lead Investigator
"He didn't confess or nothing but we have sufficient evidence that puts him there."

And while every murder is senseless, this one is peculiar. Lead investigator is Sgt. Sinquest Martinez and he says that Roger Emmanuel killed the wrong man.

Keith Swift,
You said it was a case of revenge but he didn't have any problem with Mr. Phillips.

Sgt. Sinquest Martinez,
"No he didn't have any problem with the Professor because he knew the professor, they met before, but like I said previously, wrong place at the wrong time, and it is just unfortunate, it is a mishap."

Keith Swift,
So he killed the wrong man. Is that what you are saying?

Sgt. Sinquest Martinez,
"It could have been anybody there who would have been killed, I guess at that moment."

Keith Swift,
You're saying he killed a man and didn't know if he killed the correct man? Why was this man killed?

Sgt. Sinquest Martinez,
"Like I said, the investigations continues and we will go at all angles because there are other things that we need to deal with and we are working towards that at this present moment as I speak."

Roger Emmanuel was remanded to prison without bail.
