A week ago Belize City Councilor Dean Samuels was charged for driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level above the prescribed limit and for being in possession of his nine-millimeter gun while under the influence. Well, the accused councilor was today vindicated. 7NEWS has confirmed with police that the results of a blood-alcohol test certified that Samuels' level was not over the prescribed limit.
Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid told us this evening that those two charges against the Samuels will now be dropped. Those are two of the six charges levied on Samuels after his now infamous altercation with Reece Rudon last Friday morning in front of Putt Putt Bar on Newtown Barracks. Rudon claimed that Samuels ran into his car. A confrontation followed which is when the councilor allegedly pulled out his licensed 9-millimeter gun and fired several shots.
Samuels was originally charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, driving without due care and attention, using threatening words, and discharging a firearm in public in addition to the alcohol related charges. Rudon later asked a Magistrate to withdraw the charges. The only two charges that now stand are the driving without due care and attention and discharging a firearm in public.
