He told the court that he is employed as a security guard but police allege that 22-year-old Bejohn Martinez was nothing more than a common criminal when he shot a fruit vendor during a robbery attempt last week. Silas Molina was shot around 6 am on Thursday on Dolphin Street when he refused to hand over his money to two gunmen.

Police say Martinez pulled the trigger. He was today charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm, and attempted robbery.

Martinez is also facing additional charges of theft for allegedly stealing a 15-year-old girl’s cell phone. She told police that on the afternoon of July 26th she was walking on Bocotora Street when two men on bicycles approached her. One of them grabbed her cell phone and the other went for gold chain, which he missed.

Martinez was denied bail on all charges and he was remanded into custody until September 13th.
