And while the Petters camp at the BDF is done, the biggest camp of the summer is in full swing. With 300 participants, the Police Youth Cadet Corp’s summer camp started over the weekend in Belmopan. The kids come from Cadet Corp formations all across the country and for the rest of this week, they’ll be in Belmopan. Senior Superintendent Yolanda Murray explains why it is important.
Sr. Supt. Yolanda Murray,
“Today they are all on tour. They are visiting the National Assembly, they are visiting Print Belize and they are visiting Guanacaste Park. They still have the papaya factory that they will be doing another day, another group.
When they come to camp, it is not very hard to get this large amount of youths under control because I think this is the biggest camp, I would want to think, in the country having almost 300 children here and sometimes it is 400, sometimes it is even more and so I think the Police Department, the group that have had the biggest camp countrywide, it is very important for them and not only for that but also to meet the other Cadet members from around the country and mingle with the other children from the different areas.
It is very important because many of the other children like you said would not have the opportunity to come to Belmopan and that is why even the National Assembly, I take it, that we had to take them to visit there because they see the National Assembly probably on television so many times or heard about it on the radio and it’s a good opportunity for them to come and visit the assembly themselves.”
A closing ceremony will be held on Friday and they head home on Saturday.
