It was a very violent weekend all across Belize, as there were three confirmed murders reported in different parts of the country, and one still mystery death in San Pedro but that may be the worst murder of them all. We'll tell you about all of them, but we begin in the city. He'd just finished building a new home but 27-year-old Hubert Faber Jr. won't ever get to live there. Faber was gunned down on Iguana Street Extension late on Saturday night. Keith Swift has more.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Hubert Faber Jr. was killed in front of this house on Iguana Street Extension. It is a new house on which construction was completed on Friday. And on Saturday it was in front of his new house that Faber was killed. He was found next to his late model Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and stomach. The tailgate of his pickup truck was also punctured by a bullet An area resident told us off-camera that she heard more than ten gunshots.
Area Resident,
"All I heard was so much gunshots. I don't really know what went on but I just heard a lot of gunshots. I was in my house and I just heard a lot of shots."
15 minutes after the last shot was fired - the witness says she ran out of her house and found Faber on the ground next to his Tacoma pickup. The truck's door was open and the engine was on.
Area Resident,
"I saw somebody on the ground laying down and I hollered for my brother and when we went, well I don't know him by name, I only know him as 'Belly.' I saw him down on the ground and we helped him but the time when we were helping him, the man was grabbing my hand and he was moaning and groaning and we just put him in his pickup. My brother drove off. Only three of us were out here and we put him in the pickup and we struggled with him and put him in the pickup back and my brother drove him to the hospital. After that I don't anything."
Keith Swift,
Did he tell you anything in those last moments you had with him?
Area Resident,
"No, he was only moaning and groaning. He wasn't saying anything."
Hubert Faber died on the way to the hospital. Police found only one 9 millimeter shell on the scene.
Though Faber had built the house, his family says he planned to rent it.
