One thing that wasn't mentioned in today's speech was the Universal Health Service debacle. The principal amount owing to the Belize Bank, $33.5 million comes due next week Monday and government still has not named its strategic investor. But today, the Prime Minister gave us the impression that it's all under control.
Jules Vasquez,
Sir in a week's time the Universal principal payment is due, September 23rd. What will happen on that day?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"We are convinced that the private sector will take up the matter."
Jules Vasquez,
Is there a plan afoot?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"Yes sir."
And while the due date for the principal sum was pushed back tgo next week, penalty charges at 17% have been coming in monthly as well as costs associated with government's apparent abandonment of the arbitration hearings in London.
