A young mother in Orange Walk is dead, believed to be the victim of a murderous sexual assault. 24-year-old Rachel Chun is the mother of a 7 year old. She is from Punta Gorda but left that town to go and look for work in Orange Walk. She found a job as a waitress but on Friday night, her path crossed with a killer. Here's what happened.
Jules Vasquez Reporting,
24-year-old Rachel Cicely Chun's decomposed body was found in this house on Santa Familia Street near the Savannah area of Orange Walk Town. Police found the body last night but due to the advanced state of decomposition could not remove it until almost noon today -after an on-site examination had been performed.
When the body was finally carted off and driven away, friends gathered crying, knowing that they had not only lost a friend, the community had lost the mother of a 7 year old. Police investigations found that she had been taken in here, sexually assaulted, and then likely bludgeoned to death on the ground, possibly with a cement block.
Investigating officer Sergeant Julius Cantun explained.
Sgt. Julius Cantun,
"The police observed a cement block at the scene near the body with blood spatters on it and we suspect that that is the murder weapon at this point in time. The body was half naked. We suspect that there was some form of sexual assault. I also observed that the body had severe injuries to the face which at this point we do not know how she received those injuries, the matter is under investigation. But we believe that was the injuries that caused this young lady's death."
Chun had come to Orange Walk two months ago from Punta Gorda and was working here at the Picame Bar as a waitress. She was last on Friday night around 10pm near her home. She had been socializing with Krismer Espinosa in front of her home, and then the two of them went for a walk.
Sgt. Julius Cantun,
"At this point we can only assume they were friends because we found a person who identified to be the

deceased's boyfriend so we know that for a fact. So probably this person must have been frequenting the bar. The information is that she was under the influence of alcohol and at this point in time we do not know for sure if she was drinking with the suspect."
But she never returned from her walk with Espinosa and on Sunday afternoon police got a missing persons report - and quick police work led to the suspect who told them where the body was.
Sgt. Julius Cantun,
"The suspect had made it known as to where the body was located."
Now Espinosa is also the suspect in another murder, which happened in that area.
Sgt. Julius Cantun,
"On the tenth of May, and we have discussed with our officer, on the tenth of May we had a murder almost in the general location with the same modus operandi and we are strongly looking at this person as a suspect in relation to the first murder of Ana Novelo."
Krismer Espinosa has been charged for murder.
