Police have tracked down a Korean man that lives in Chetumal, after he swindled a free zone businessman. 50-year-old Hueng Tack Kim a 50 year old Korean businessman from Corozal Town told police that in December of last year, his countryman, fellow Korean Hi Hyung Cheong told him he represented a company in Vietnam and could get him some high quality socks.

Kim ordered 598 boxes, valued at $164,000 and all Cheong required was a down payment of US$25,00000. Kim paid Cheong in pesos but months later when he got the socks, he realized they were defective. From there, he started making checks only to find out that the company Cheong claimed to represent didn’t even exist.

He called in Cheong to settle and called police at the same time. Police arrested 47-year-old Cheong, when he came to the zone from Chetumal and have reportedly charged him but at news time we could not confirm what the charges are.
