They were two brothers accused of one murder and this afternoon a jury had one verdict for Emory and Maurice Felix and it was guilty. The brothers were charged for the April 10th 2006 murder of Mitchum Heredia on T Street.

The star witness against the Felix brothers was Romel Palacio who witnessed the murder and told jurors what he saw. The brothers took the stand in their own defense and both denied any involvement. Their mother Janet Felix testified that at the time of the murder, Maurice was home with her. Brandon Taylor testified that he and Emory Felix were together at the time.

The jury deliberated for just under three hours before returning with the two guilty verdicts. Mitchum’s mom Umbelina Moss and her husband Kenny Moss were in the courtroom listening and they gave us their reaction to the verdict.

Umbelina Moss, Mother of Deceased
“I am glad how it turned out to be because justice took its course, yes.”

Keith Swift,
Is this what you wanted?

Umbelina Moss,
“Yes this is what I wanted.”

Kenny Moss,
“At least to say justice took its course, that’s all.”

Umbelina Moss,
“This can’t bring back my son. I am still happy that it has gone through the correct process and this is what has become that they are being charged for the murder of my son.”

Keith Swift,
This happened two years ago. Will this make the getting over your son easier?

Umbelina Moss,
“No it won’t heal us, the way we lost our son but you feel that you know that it went through the justice system.”

The brothers were represented by Michael Peyrefitte and the prosecutor was Tracy Sosa. Justice Adolph Lucas will sentence them on October 26th. Also important is that Maurice Felix was additionally convicted of the attempted murder of the crown’s star witness Romel Palacio. Palacio was shot at on the night of the murder but he escaped injury. Emory and Maurice Felix’s older brother Kurlin known as Cluck-Cluck was murdered last month.
