The Weather Bureau says to expect scattered showers over the next couple days. It may be bad news to you but it’s the worse news to some of the residents in the Belama Phase 3 area who haven’t recovered from the rains that deluged the city on August 29th. We visited the area today.

Marva Gillett, Belama Resident
“It’s disgusting and frustrating.”

Marva Gillett is frustrated and disgusted about the pool of water that’s been stagnant on Albert Hoy Avenue for at least the last month. Today we did what anyone who wants to walk on Albert Hoy Avenue has to do. Take off our shoes, roll up pants and walk in waster. Residents say it has been like this since August.

Marva Gillett,
“It hasn’t gone down as yet. Its been here all the while everybody has to walk through it everyday.”

Keith Swift,
So on a typical day you heading out to work. What do you have to do to get to dry land?

Marva Gillett,
“I have to wear rubber boots. Have my son cross over on a bike and pick up the rubber boots for me and ring it back for my daughters to go to work. We have to walk through it everyday to go to work or school. Its not only us, all the people from phase four across the bridge from us have to do the same thing and nobody picks ups our garbage when the water is here and nobody cleans the drains.”

Edwin Coye lives across in Belama Phase 4 and he was to wade through the water daily to get out and in his yard.

Edwin Coye,
“Everyday people have to walk through the water. School children and people who are working have to pass through the water. Sometimes people drop in the water because nowadays when you walk through the water people get sick, asthma and everything. I just want this water to go down. Even if it doesn’t rain, water is still here. Water is still here. “

The residents say they’ve contacted both the City Council and the Ministry of Works but no one has offered or made any attempt to help.
