A week ago a jury convicted 35 year old Wilfred Gillett and his common-law wife 36 year old Beverly Brown Simpson of molesting a 9 year old girl. Today a judge sentenced the couple to 14 years in jail. As we’ve reported, the girl claims that on 6 separate occasions between April and May of 2006 Simpson, who was her nanny, held her down while Gillett raped her.
A jury convicted the couple of five of those counts, Gillett for unlawful carnal knowledge and brown for abetment. The allegations are sickening and the couple begged for leniency today and called 5 character witnesses. Gillett even cried - saying that he has 4 children who he needs to take of. But Justice Troadio Gonzalez said 12 years was the minimum. He added to that the fact that the crime was committed 5 times. He sentenced them to 14 years on each count. The sentences will run concurrently. The couple was undefended.
