Belize most loved and celebrated performer, Andy Palacio passed away at 9:05 pm on Saturday night at Universal Health Services. He died of respiratory failure secondary to a heart attack and stroke. On Friday night at 10:30, he arrived back in Belize from Mobile, Alabama where doctors said there was nothing more they could do from him. The 47-year-old had suffered multiple strokes and a major heart attack which left him on life support.

But what most people have been asking us is how could what appeared to be a healthy, robust, relatively young man fall so suddenly and gravely ill? Well, according to best reports, he started showing signs of serious illness on January 10th when he complained of loss of vision. On Tuesday the 15th he was at his home in Santa Elena when he had a major complication - most likely a heart attack or a stroke.

After that, he was admitted for treatment on Wednesday but most agree that by then Palacio had suffered major stroke-related damage. By Thursday, he was no longer responsive and that’s when the decision was made to fly him out to the University of Chicago Medical Center. That’s when he had a major, probably a terminal, seizure in the air - and fell into a coma from which he never recovered.

And though he appeared outwardly healthy, it has been reported that Palacio did have significant health issues, most prominent among them the fact that his blood cholesterol level was at 500 when in healthy people, it should be below 200. And so that is the story of Andy Palacio’s demise but it tells nothing of the loss to Belize and in fact to the world.
