A SJC’s Junior College student was today charged in court with manslaughter by negligence for knocking down and killing a 7 year old girl. Police allege that yesterday afternoon the SJC student - 20 year old Andrew Craig - was driving his dark green Ford Mustang on Central American Boulevard towards the Belcan Bridge when he hit 7 year old Derika Castillo – a student at the Central Assembly of God Primary School.
According to police, Craig stopped in front of the City Center to allow some students to cross the street. It appears that Derika was passing at the same time and she was hit by the left front portion of Andrew Craig’s mustang. She received head and body injuries and rushed to the KHMH. She died last night at 8.
In court Andrew Craig was charged with manslaughter by negligence in addition to driving without due care and attention and causing death by careless conduct. He was released on $5,000 bail plus two sureties. He is due back in court on April 12th. Alifa Elrington is his attorney.
