The Belize Chinese Community has a new president. He is Li Mark Chang of the Chon Saan Restaurant chain. He’s led the community before, but he says this time is different.

What’s your number one priority during your presidency for the next two years?
Li Mark Chang,
“Well first of all there are certain forms of harassment to the Chinese community, we are looking into that already and make sure that we reduce the crime levels against the Chinese business community to a minimal.”

Are you finding greater acceptance and greater assimilation of the Chinese community into Belize?
Li Mark Chang,
“Well of course, there a lot of Chinese businessmen, shop owners, who intermingle with the locals in certain areas that they are and they have their nicknames for him and when you go around the shops they’ll tell you that is their man, that is they tell you. They have their customers, their friends, and hopefully the Chinese community can be more stronger for the future.”
