In early 2002, Jermaine Fuentes was Belize’s most wanted. He was at the center of many criminal intrigues, and was accused it seemed, of being almost omnipresent. Police made it clear that he was wanted, armed and dangerous. But then suddenly, no one heard anything Jermaine Fuentes. And for the past 6 years, that’s been where it stands. But now police believe that a scattering of human remains found off the Coastal Highway may provide some clues as to his death. On Monday, acting on information received, police went to the area with a scenes of crime team, and gathered the remains from what is described as a shallow grave. The informer has reportedly told investigators that it is the body of Fuentes. But because the remains are completely decomposed – and the clothing disintegrated, no positive ID, has been made.

And while the discovery of the remains – which are possibly those of Fuentes is one story – the other is the question of who killed him. 7NEWS is very reliably informed that the informer has indicated that police personnel were involved in the murder. It is an extraordinary and explosive claim – and not one we report lightly. 7NEWS has cross-checked this information with a number of police sources and we can confirm that it is being investigated from that angle.
