March is Child Stimulation Month and all month long there will be rallies, open days, and parades - highlighting the importance of early childhood education. And that was the idea behind the cultural day at the Anglican Diocesan Pre-School. The 49 students dressed up in the cultural garbes of Mestizos, Mayans, Garifunas, Creole, Mennonites, Indians – and ate the part. 7NEWS was there and spoke to principal Joy Ross.
Joy Ross, Principal
“This day was designated for our cultural day, one of the activities for Child Stimulation Month. We had a meeting and at the meeting I discussed and we all came up that the parents will choose one of the ethnic groups in our country Belize and dress their child in that costume and also bring along a dish from that particular ethnic group. We have different ethnic groups in our country and we are supposed to live together as one as we teach them here in the preschool and some of the music is being played and also the food. There are different cultural; foods. I must really commend the parents because they really worked along with us to make this day a successful as it was.”
Next up for Child Stimulation Month is a flag day.
