Conflicting reports from witnesses have been affecting the ongoing investigation into the murder of twenty two year old Mirna Sanabria. Sanabria was in the family owned grocery in Cotton Tree Village on February 27th when she was shot and killed by robbers. Belmopan police had detained two persons who they believe to have been strong suspects. But now, witnesses have been providing contradicting statements and due to the lack of evidence, the duo who are from Ontario Village were released.
However while the men may have been freed from that investigation one remains detained and the other has been charged for another crime. According to Belmopan authorities during their preliminary investigation they searched the home of Jameel Chavarria. As a result Chavarria has been charged for kept firearm and ammunition without a license. Police add that the gun and bullets are not connected to the homicide. Meanwhile Jerome Jones remains in police custody because it was discovered while he was detained at the police station, he owed court money for another case and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Belmopan police say they continue to aggressively investigate the murder that they believe was instigated by a resident from Cotton Tree Village. Police believe Mirna Sanabria was murdered because she may have known her killers.
