BEL Plan Citywide Blackout for Sunday

If you live in Belize City you’d better prepare for a major planned power outage this weekend. As part of its maintenance program, on Sunday Belize Electricity Limited will inspect and replace poles and cross arms between the Belize City substation and their West Lake Generating Plant at mile 8. Simply put, as of 7 am on Sunday most of Belize City will be without power.

On the south side the areas affected will be the entire Lake Independence, Port Loyola and Collet divisions. It will extend from there to downtown Belize City. On the north side, the outage will be concentrated in the Fort George and Caribbean Shores areas.

The outage will last from 7 am to 2 pm- which means no electrical fans on a day that’s predicted to be very hot. A BEL spokesperson told us that the company ahs chosen a planned outage rather than having unplanned ones which could last much longer.
