But information police responded to last night was not that solid, though it was as compelling. At about 11:30 – there was a massive police response to a report that a plane, possibly a drug plane had landed in the small creek behind Cisco Construction. A plane landing in a small waterway at the height of the night? The story sounded bizarre but the report was credible and police responded aggressively.

A reported 8 police mobiles, with at least 6 officers above the rank of superintendent showed up to the area. But because it is covered by dense mangrove, they couldn’t see anything – so they got Astrum Helicopters to take them on an aerial search at midnight. All this while officers on the ground were wading through the creek in a very intensive search effort.

But all that turned up nothing, and just after midnight, when police heard the loud hum of plane engines, they realized that someone had made a mistake. Checks showed that the plane they heard and could see from Cisco was taking off from the Phillip Goldson International. Best reports to 7NEWS say that it was one of these, a P-3 Orion, a U.S. military plane that had stopped in Belize for re-fuelling.

Now the PGIA is a long way from the bush behind Cisco and so that’s why police went up in the helicopter again today and scoured the area just to make sure. But they saw nothing, thus concluding and confirming that there was nothing to be found.
