In March Police Constable Allister Casey and Special Constable John Myvett were charged with wounding – for beating up prison inmate 23 year old Kevin “Possum” Dawson. The case went to trial this morning but Dawson – who is on the run from police for a murder - didn’t show up and so the two officers walked free. Casey and Myvett were accused of wounding Dawson when he was recaptured on March 14th. A week earlier he outsmarted police when he was charged for drug trafficking but swapped clothes and charge sheets with an inmate charged for drug possession. Using that fake identity, or maybe just playing possum, he got bail. Dawson was later recaptured and that is when the alleged beating occurred. Myvett and Casey were on interdiction and with the charge dropped it is now left to the Commissioner of Police to reinstate them.
