2 teenagers, aged 15 and 17 will be charged by San Ignacio Police in connection with the murder of Mike and Donna Hill. Both young men are from Santa Elena and one of them had reportedly worked for the Hills. According to our reports, they have confessed to the crime and should be charged tomorrow. From what police have been able to determine the motive was robbery. Yesterday evening, police recovered the couple’s Toyota Hilux pickup truck and inside they found a number of personal possessions including a hand-held GPS, keys and a bottle of wine. Unconfirmed reports also say that police recovered the couple’s shotgun, which was believed to have been used as the murder weapon.
And while police have been very quick to solve the murder of the two American Belizeans, in the four other murders that happened in Cayo last week, only one arrest has been made. And now there is one worrying variable to add to that mix. The BDF today announced that on the first of May, an m-16 rifle was stolen from its observation post in Xunantunich. According to a BDF release, there is, quote, “much concern” that this rifle could be linked with the recent Arenal Road hold up and the Calla Creek murders. The BDF has commissioned ballistics test to determine if this is the case. Still, Belizean and Guatemalan security forces are patrolling and the BDF has stepped up its presence along the border. And if you sight anyone or anything unusual no matter what time of day or night, the BDF is urging you to call Camp Belizario at 804-2106 or Price Barracks at 225 – 2174.
