Late this evening a jury of nine women and 3 men who had deliberated for 4 hours returned with a not guilty for murder verdict against thirty two year old John Williams. However the jurors did find John Williams guilty of manslaughter after he struck forty nine year old Conuto Mauricio Tillet. Tillet who was hit in the forehead with a stick died on the way to the hospital. The victim’s skull was fractured.

On the night of April fifth, 2007 John Williams and Conuto Tillet along with friends and family were socializing at the victims’ residence in the St. Martin de Porres area. As the group drank Tillett accused Williams of stealing some money. The argument quickly escalated and ended in a life being lost.

But after deliberating for several hours the jurors today believe that the accused was protecting his own life when he lashed out at the victim. John Williams was then found guilty of manslaughter. Following his court appearance he returned to the Hattieville Prison where he will remain until October twenty third. On that day, John Williams will return to the Supreme Court where he will be sentenced.
