In our story last night about evacuations in Hope Creek, we told you about the little boy with cerebral palsy who fled with her family to the ITVET shelter. Well it’s actually his foster family. And before they got to the shelter, the little girl spent the night in a minivan along with her foster siblings. Her foster father Gary Bidwell told us about the ordeal.

Gary Bidwell, Foster Father
“We experienced the first flood and it rained like this the first day and then the next morning it rose, it got to be about six feet in the house so we were a little leery and shaky whenever it gets flooded a little bit. I seen the water coming up around one o’clock and so we started packing things and cramming the van full and we got out and we slept next to the road in the van. I got it out before it got too deep.”

Keith Swift,
What are the ages of the three children?

Gary Bidwell,
“Well Jerome he is four, he got cerebral palsy and he is blind and can’t walk. Annie is 11 and she has a nerve problem that forces her to have seizures and Destiny is 6.”

The Bidwells are a part of Kids Keepers, an international family of foster parents. The good news is that our contacts in Hope Creek tell us that the water is going down today.
