There may be a present break in the heavy rains that have caused widespread flooding countrywide but what we may be experiencing is the calm before the storm. That is because the Belize Weather Bureau is not only predicting an increase in showers but there may be something brewing just off the coast of Belize. Late this afternoon 7NEWS caught up with acting Chief Meteorologist Ramon Frutos who told us why Belizeans countrywide should monitor the weather reports this weekend and into early next week.

Ramon Frutos, Chief Meteorologist
“The models are indicating that we could rainfall from about half inch to one inch every six hours for the next two days and then increasing that later on Monday and Tuesday to one to two inches every six hours over some parts of the country.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
And what does this mean?

Ramon Frutos,
“This means then that because the landscape and the countryside is already saturated with water then the additional water will just cause water levels in the rivers and streams and lagoons to continue to rise.

I think we’ve been through the worst of the hurricane season already. But as you know some of the big ones have occurred to the end of this month so I will not let down my guard and I ask all Belizeans not to let down their guards and continue to be prepared. Know what you have to do, have a plan and listen very carefully to the weather reports.”

The hurricane season comes to an official close on November thirtieth. So far the season has seen fifteen of the seventeen storms predicted.
