Police and BDF search teams have still not recovered the body of a second person who is believed to have drowned in the Sittee River near the Kendall Bridge. But police believe they know his identity based on documents retrieved from the river. A grey suitcase was recovered and it contained a Nigerian passport in the name of Adulgafar Taye Bello. And while what is believed to be his passport has been found, exhaustive searches have still not turned up any trace of him – and it is believed powerful river currents washed him away and took him under.

Police have also released what they believe to be the name of his companion, whose body was found yesterday morning about 600 yards downstream from the Kendall Causeway. She is 30 year-old Nigerian Mujeedat Olasunbo Biobaku. Her passport was also found in a suitcase that was retrieved from the river.

The couple drowned as they were being taken across the river at night in a dorie by Carlos Balona, a resident of nearby Maya Center Village. The dorie capsized when a speedboat cut past it. Balona was detained by police for questioning. He was also asked to provide s sample to test his alcohol level because he seemed to have been drinking. The Police and BDF who were assigned to the area are also in trouble because they were expressly told not to allow river crossings at night.
