Police have made a quick pair of arrests after a spike in street violence earlier this week. First, there was the shooting near Banak Street on Wednesday night, which lead to Dillon Bennett’s death 12 hours later at the KHMH. And then yesterday at noon on Central American Boulevard, multiple shots were fired at Richard Russell, Lucious and Lexus Meyers – most likely an act of retaliation between rival gangs..
But first to the Wednesday night double shooting – which is now being investigated as a murder. 31 year old Roger Anthony was charged for murder for firing the shot that killed 23 year old Dillon Bennett, and 3 counts of attempted murder, for shooting at 19 year old Akeem Gotoy, 18 year old Kenroy Humes, and

Steven Flowers. He was additionally charged with use of deadly means of harm for shooting Gotoy in the head and back. He is in a stable condition at the KHMH.
Today in court, Anthony was read those charges and remanded until October 31st. Anthony is well known to police and the courts. He was charged for the murder of Kurt Ortega just a year ago. And he just came off one year of remand for that crime when he was set free in the first week of September. The DPP said she could not proceed with the case because she didn’t have evidence against him.
It’s interesting to note that one of the men Anthony is accused of shooting on Wednesday night is Kenroy Humes. He also just came out of prison, after being on remand for the murder of 29-year-old Gilbert Phillips. The case against him fell apart when witnesses refused to testify. And while he was only shot at this time, in June of this year, he was shot in the behind, but not seriously injured.
