A bus was jacked near Benque Viejo last night – and the man who did it was posing as a commuter. According to the Cayo Star newspaper, just after nine last night it happened onboard a Guerra’s bus as it passed through miles sixty eight and sixty nine on the western highway.

The bus driver forty nine year old Fernando Moh was letting off some passengers but as he turned on the interior lights his attention was drawn to one of the commuters. A dark skinned man wearing a black and white handkerchief over his nose and mouth was quickly moving up the aisle towards the front of the bus. Realizing that they were about to be held up, Moh applied brakes and that caused the would be robber to stumble.

But he grabbed onto the vehicle’s door handle and at the same time reached out and snatched the money bag that was wedged between the dashboard and the windshield. The suspect then jumped off the bus and ran off with the black purse that contained no more than seven hundred dollars. The bus driver grabbed his machete and ran after the fleeing robber but the man disappeared into the dark in some bushes on the left hand side of the road.

He reported it to police and also warned them that the man was armed with a handgun. Both San Ignacio and Benque police conducted searches but so far no one has been detained.
