And while the CYDP is playing football, the Belize Times says its sister organization, youth for the future is playing politics with people's lives.
The paper's headline today produces a list of 42 people who've been fired from the YFF and 8 more who are on the block.
We today caught up with director of YFF, Dianne Finnegan who told us that yes, it's true, 42 have been sent home and she makes no apologies for it.
Jules Vasquez
"Have you all fired 42 people?"
Dianne Finnegan, Director YFF
"Yes, but that was throughout a period of time it's not something that just happened. But some of those individuals - and that is why I feel there is an agenda behind all this - some of those people who were terminated had never been to work a day since they were employed. Some of them again just basically could not perform the task that was given to them to do. There was no malicious intent I had no agenda and I did not just come into work one day and terminate 42 people."
Jules Vasquez
"How many were fired just for being PUP's?"
Dianne Finnegan, Director YFF
"None because I never asked them and this they themselves can verify I never asked them their political status."
Jules Vasquez
"So, these persons who have been terminated, is that the end of it or will there be more?"
Dianne Finnegan, Director YFF
"There are staff members who are still used to behave in the way they used to yesterday meaning that they come to work late, they are constantly sick e their performance is well I come to work I get my paycheck and it's another day. No we have young people who are dying every day young people who truly need some direction, some assistance in finding their own identity so at youth for the future we have a lotta work to do."
BAHA has also been accused of political firings, and PSU president Jacqueline Willoughby has assured us that she will speak on that next week.
