It was described as the discovery of a discarded fetus, but Chief Pathologist Dr. Mario Estradabran told 7NEWS today that due to the advanced state of decomposition, he is unable to say how a full term baby girl died.

The gruesome discovery was made on Wednesday morning by a group of young boys. The baby had been wrapped in a towel, put into a black plastic bag and dumped into the sea off Newtown Barracks. The post mortem could not confirm if the baby was already dead when it was disposed of but the examination reveal a number of disturbing observations that has left this troubling case with more questions than answers.

Dr. Estradabran strongly believes that the baby girl who had black hair had been in the water since December thirteenth. There was also no umbilical cord attached to the body. Dr. Estradabran also observed two injuries one to the baby’s mid abdomen and another in the genital area. The post mortem however could not determine the cause of those injuries.

Following the medical examination, the remains of the baby girl was buried at the lord ridge cemetery. And just like the death of the baby girl remains a mystery so too authorities have no leads into who is the mother or where and when she may have given birth. If you have any information that can bring some closure to this case, you are asked to contact the nearest police station.
