It took a nine member jury only three hours to find sixty six year old Rupert Linsdale Flowers guilty of carnal knowledge. The senior resident of Hattieville Village is accused of having sex with a fifteen year old girl then paying the minor one dollar and fifty cents. The victim, who is now seventeen years old, reported that it all happened in September of 2006.
Rupert Flowers, who was undefended, told the court that it was all a lie and then he gave reasons why he could not have done what the girl had said. Flowers explained to the court that he is impotent, suffers from diabetes and has high blood pressure. Flowers even went on to tell the court that it is the girl who was in the habit of coming by his house.
But the jury of six women and three men did not buy it and at two twenty nine this afternoon they returned to the Supreme Court room with a guilty verdict. The case was heard before Justice Adolph Lucas and prosecuted by Nadine Palacio. Rupert Linsdale Flowers is scheduled to be sentenced on December twenty third. He could spend anywhere between five to ten years.
It is interesting to note that on November twelfth a close friend of the accused, forty one year old Leroy Stevens was sentenced to six years after he was found guilty of carnal knowledge. He had sex with you guessed it, the same fifteen year old.
