And while the seniors partied this morning, this afternoon it was the children at the only Christmas party big enough to force the closure of an entire street. That’s what happened on Euphrates Avenue where the street was shut down to make space for the one thousand children at Mesopotamia Area Representative Michael Finnegan’s annual Christmas party. Each child got a plate of food plus a gift handed out by Finnegan. He says though he is now Minister Finnegan, his constituents matter.
Hon. Michael Finnegan, Mesopotamia Area Representative
“We’re having our regular Christmas party and we’re trying to have a happy time in the area now that this Christmas time. We’re catering for a thousand kids. They get different gifts, different toys, a plate of food, a little bag here and there. A lot of work and planning (went in preparing for today) so that we can have it organized as you see so it does not turn into a grab tub.”
Keith Swift,
Why do you do this Mr. Finnegan because you’re a Minister and I’m sure you have other things to attend to?
Hon. Michael Finnegan,
“I enjoy doing this. These people have been supporting me for 30 years and so I try to give back to the community at Christmas time, at Easter time, at school time – in fact every time, every day of the year, 365 days of the year, I try to give back to my people.”
