As we reported earlier, Sherlett Arnold never made it on the stand because she was shot on Monday night. She and her sister were socializing in their yard in Rowland’s Alley when a gunman opened fire. The officer in charge of the Crimes Investigation Branch – Assistant Superintendent Julio Valdez told us that one Dennis Belgrave was the target and that the bullets missed him and hit the sisters. Well if it is a Dennis Belgrave – it is not the Dennis Belgrave who visited our studios today to clear his name. Dennis told us that he lives in the area but they couldn’t have been shooting at him because he was in class taking a science test at the time of the shooting.
Dennis Belgrave, Disputes Police Report
“I am not that person. Monday night I was in class. I go to SJC Extension from 5 o’clock to 9 o’clock in the night. How could it be me, I could never be a target if I am in class at the time.”
Keith Swift,
But you are Dennis Belgrave right?
Dennis Belgrave,
“Yes I am Dennis Belgrave.”
Keith Swift,
Do you know of any other Dennis Belgrave?
Dennis Belgrave,
“I know of no other Dennis Belgrave.”
Keith Swift,
But it wasn’t you they were trying to kill.
Dennis Belgrave,
“I was at school. How could it be me.”
Keith Swift,
Why is it important for you to clear this up?
Dennis Belgrave,
“It is important. Somebody got shot in that incident and by calling my name, I could be a next target and so I came to clear my name from now because I wasn’t around there. As I said, I was at school that night.”
ASP Julio Valdez was out of office today but Police Press Officer Clemente Palacio says refused to get into a back and forth with Belgrave. Information to 7News is that Sherlett Arnold was the target and that the gun misfired. She was hit in the buttocks.
And in a clarification to another story we ran last night, we reported that Scrub-Board Saldano had been shot on East Canal. While that’s the name we got from police, turns out it was not Edwin Scrub-Board Saldano, but his brother 39 year old Elroy Saldano.
