In a correction to a story we ran last night, Lt Col. Peter Germain, the Commander of BATSUB Belize called our news desk to say that while a team from the Special Investigation Branch from the Royal Military Police has been in Belize since last week working with local authorities, that British team is not the specialized team that has successfully conducted searches in military hardware in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
According to Lt. Col. Peter Germain he is still trying to secure the services of that specialized team to come to Belize to work along with the local authorities.
The collaborative effort between both countries comes after three British made grenades somehow ended up in the hands of criminals who used the deadly devices in three separate incidents in Belize City. The three grenades are believed to have come from batches used by various training units over the past few years up to mid November 2008.
